Postdoc on anthropogenic noise in coral reef environments at University of Exeter, UK

The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) to work with Dr Steve Simpson (Exeter), Prof. Andy Radford (Bristol) and Prof. Mark McCormick (James Cook University; JCU) on a NERC-funded project to assess Impacts of anthropogenic noise on reproduction and survival. The post is available from 1st April 2017 for 31 months (with the possibility of extending to 36 months) and will be based at the Streatham Campus of the University of Exeter.

The PDRF will conduct studies on a day-to-day basis, and organise and manage three 4-month field trips to Lizard Island Research Station and two 4-month research visits to James Cook University. The PDRF will require excellent field skills (scuba diving, snorkelling, boat handling), have experience in building and designing equipment for field and aquarium-based experiments, be willing to learn theory and analysis of underwater acoustics, and have experience in arranging logistics and managing students and assistants during fieldwork. The PDRF will be supported with analysing data and writing papers, and encouraged to present findings at national/international conferences, thus maximising their career progression.

The successful applicant will already have a strong track record in some or all of the fields of fish biology, marine ecology, underwater acoustics and animal behaviour. They will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader where required.
