New R package of interest to fisheries scientists

TropFishR: Tropical Fisheries analysis with R

Scientists from the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology in Bremen have recently published a free and open source R package that compiles models for single-species stock assessment. The work builds upon the FAO manual “Introduction to tropical fish stock assessment” (1998) by P. Sparre and S.C. Venema. Not only scientists working in the tropics will benefit from this new toolbox. The methods work with age based or length-frequency data and assist in the assessment of data poor fish stocks. Overall, the package comes with 20 functions, 18 data sets and ten s3 methods. All objects are documented and provide examples that allow reproducing the examples from the FAO manual. The package is available on CRAN (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/TropFishR/index.html) and can be downloaded with a standard installation procedure. The FAO manual can be downloaded at http://www.fao.org/docrep/W5449E/W5449E00.htm.
