The Fisheries Research Network (Finet), in cooperation with YOUMARES VI and
Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) organise a
Free workshop on Social Network Analysis (SNA)
Are you are interested in learning about Social Network Analysis (SNA)?
Do you have little or no experience? Or are you already an experienced SNA user willing to share your work and knowledge with us and to discuss it with other young researchers?
This workshop is for you!
Social network analysis is becoming an increasingly important tool in a wide variety of disciplines, from ecology to social science: How do dolphins communicate? Who do fishermen ask for advice? What are the drivers for sustainable marine resource use? With SNA, you can explore animal behaviour, human networks, ecosystem interactions, and social-ecological systems!
In this one-day workshop, we give a broad introduction to the concept of Social Network Analysis (SNA), the methods and theory behind it, and its applications with a focus on fisheries and aquatic socio-ecological systems. Combining practical and theoretical sessions, you will learn:
- how Social Network Analysis (SNA) works
- to use the open SNA software Gephi
- where SNA is used in cutting-edge marine research
- to take advantage of SNA for literature reviews
- to apply SNA to your research and interests
This workshop aims to bring together more experienced SNA users by providing a platform to present and discuss their current work with other young researchers, and to establish long-term connections, with the possibility of a joint publication.
The workshop will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants.
Deadline for registration: 15th August 2015.
When? 16th of September 2015, from 10am to 4pm
Where? In Bremen, Germany, as part of the YOUMARES VI Conference and within the facilities of the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT), Bremen
