FAO Fishery Resources Officer

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy, is looking for a Fishery Resources Officer to promote and advise on the sustainable utilization, and fisheries management of tuna, and tuna-like resources, and the other species and ecosystems impacted by these fisheries.

Tasks include:

  • design programmes of assistance to Member Governments in their tuna and tuna-like species resource assessments, other fisheries research and management activities, including implementation of the ecosystem approach to fisheries;
  • provide technical support and advice to relevant regional fishery bodies on stock assessment, other fisheries research and the ecosystem approach to fisheries;
  • coordinate the collation of data and information on tuna and tuna-like species including that on their biology, ecology, stock status, fisheries and management;
  • prepare reports on the outcome of fisheries research activities, in particular on stock assessment;
  • provide advice on fisheries management, including the implementation of the ecosystem approach to tuna fisheries;
  • promote the development and dissemination of information on best practices in tuna fisheries management;
