The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Germany, is investigating the natural physical and biogeochemical dynamics of the coastal ocean and the impact of anthropogenic influences on the natural state. We search for a qualified scientist to investigate turbulence and mixing processes in the coastal ocean, and its relevance and impact on coastal systems. We therefore invite applications for a Ph.D. position (m/f) in the area of “coastal ocean turbulence”. The duration of the position is three years. The scientist will conduct field-based research using autonomous underwater ocean gliders equipped with turbulence microstructure sensors. The measurements will be used to understand the transport of heat and salt, as well as other ocean tracers and the relevance of mixing processes on the North Sea system.
Closing date for applications is February 15th, 2014.
