Marine Hatchery Scientist

NIWA is a leading provider of aquaculture research and consultancy services for the aquaculture industry in New Zealand and overseas.

We are looking for a scientist to provide technical and science support for our research and commercial projects at Bream Bay, specialising predominantly in development of hatchery technology for Finfish.  The work will include the gathering, processing, management and reporting of data to deliver outcomes for our internal science programmes and the needs of our commercial clients both here in New Zealand and abroad.

With a PhD in biological sciences with marine or aquaculture course components, you will have experience working, publishing and presenting in the aquaculture sciences, along with the practical application of research knowledge and leading small projects.  You will have experience working with fish larvae, including larval development and health, live feed and nutrition and operating hatchery systems.  It is essential that the candidate has experience using these skills to solve larval production bottlenecks.  Your skills will also include capability in experimental design and experience with statistical analysis using SYSTAT or similar.
