PhD position “Role of the sediments for dissolved organic carbon (DOC) quantity and quality in drinking water reservoirs”

The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Department Lake Research, in Magdeburg, Germany, is offering a position for a PhD position with the topic „Role of the sediments for dissolved organic carbon (DOC) quantity and quality in drinking water reservoirs“. The work encompasses both intensive field campaigns at a drinking water reservoir in the Harz-Mountains, as well as experiments in laboratory mesocosms. The candidate will quantify the exchange of DOC between sediment and water and investigate the effects of benthic biofilms, sedimentation and resuspension. A special focus will be on the effect of redox-changes and anaerobic microbial processes on DOC.

Application deadline: 7th of October 2012
