PhD Position at University of Glasgow: The effect of in-stream barriers on the river migration of Atlantic salmon

In this 3 year PhD project, offered jointly by the University of Glasgow and the Loughs Agency, the behaviour response of migratory salmonids to barriers, their ability to overcome barriers of different types, the features of barriers that enable passage and the efficacy of salmonid counting devices in barriers will be investigated, mostly through field based studies and mostly using sonic and radio tagging techniques on wild migrating salmon.
The project will be based at the Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment on Loch Lomondside and at the Loughs Agency in Northern Ireland (approximately 50% time in each location).
